# Keep your recovery phrase and private key safe

In the decentralized world of cryptocurrency, security begins with **you**. When you create a crypto walletespecially a **non-custodial wallet** you are given two critical pieces of information: a **private key** and a **recovery phrase** (also known as a mnemonic phrase or seed phrase). These are your only access to your digital assets.

#### Why Are They So Important?

Unlike traditional banking, crypto wallets do not have password recovery systems or customer service reset options. Your **private key** and **recovery phrase** are the **only way** to access, send, or restore your funds. If you lose them, you lose access to your assets **permanently**.

* **Private Key**: A long string of characters used to sign transactions.
* **Recovery Phrase**: A set of 12–24 words used to regenerate your wallet.

Anyone with either of these can **fully control your wallet**.

#### 🔐 Final Thoughts

Your private key and recovery phrase are the keys to your digital bank. If they fall into the wrong hands—or are lost—there is no recovery process. Taking a few careful steps to protect them ensures your assets remain **safe, accessible, and fully under your control**.
